The Mahonia community at RoseVilla redefines what healthy senior living can look and feel like. Set on two acres near the Willamette River, the community includes 12 luxury homes designed to meet the world’s highest green building standard, a wellness center, and a restored oak savanna and a pocket garden. Every element is guided by biophilic design, weaving natural materials, native landscaping and views of the expansive into everyday spaces to support well-being. We celebrate the abundance of water through bioswales, indoor and outdoor water features and a reflection pool.
Mahonia is pursuing full Living Building Challenge certification, a standard that requires buildings to give back more than they take. The residences and wellness center are designed to restore the native landscape, support the health of the people who live here, and prove it through a year of measured performance.
A landscape restored
Fresh air and daily time in nature are essential to healthy living and extending seniors’ health spans. At Mahonia, the landscape is being restored to native oak savanna, preserving and integrating existing legacy oaks and a Douglas fir grove into the site. Accessible, meandering pathways connect the campus through the savanna, link to a larger campus walking loop, and lead to a labyrinth walk with the restored fir grove. A pocket garden, along with westward views of the Willamette River and hills beyond, keeps residents connected to the natural landscape.
The EcoHomes
Perched on a west-facing slope, this community of 12 modern homes offers RoseVilla residents comfort and flexibility in a deeply restorative environment. With two duplexes and two fourplexes, Mahonia offers three floor plans to suit a range of needs and budgets. Each home opens to a generous deck overlooking the oak savanna, offering views of the Willamette River and the hills beyond. Like The Oaks and Trillium Townhomes, Mahonia offers RoseVilla residents an opportunity to live their environmental values as they age in place.
The Sanctuary Wellness Center
The Sanctuary is a place for healing and rejuvenation, offering immersive, multisensory experiences inspired by the surrounding landscape. The 7,800-square-foot wellness center features a large movement studio for yoga, tai chi and meditation, as well as a day spa with massage and acupuncture treatment rooms. RoseVilla’s wellness team and residents can utilize a shared meeting room and a living room lounge with a deck overlooking the restored oak savannah. A two-story glass conservatory with a celebratory stair looks over the restored Douglas fir grove.
