Trillium Townhomes at RoseVilla

This community of six modern row homes on the RoseVilla campus generates as much energy as it consumes over a year.

Project Description

Trillium Townhomes is a community of six zero energy modern row homes within RoseVilla’s pedestrian-oriented campus in Portland, Oregon. Inspired by the architecture of Portland’s Pearl District, the modern, energy-efficient homes feature brick-clad exteriors, metal awnings, and double-height great rooms filled with natural light and opening onto the kitchen and dining spaces.

We designed Trillium Townhomes to provide optimal flexibility for aging in place. The main bedroom, bath, kitchen and living spaces are all on the main floor, with wide hallways and doorways. The upstairs loft includes a bathroom and an auxiliary space that can be used as an office, art or yoga studio, or second bedroom. Additionally, each residence includes a private balcony overlooking a permaculture-inspired courtyard planted with edible and native species and woven together by accessible pathways. More than a landscape feature, the courtyard has become a vibrant gathering place for Trillium Townhomes residents and their neighbors.

Trillium Townhomes—an all-electric development—is designed to meet all of its energy needs over the course of a year from a 31-kilowatt rooftop solar array. It’s also one of three buildings at Rose Villa reusing valuable reclaimed rainwater to flush toilets.
