Michelle Montiel

Architectural Associate
  • Michelle Montiel

Michelle has always known she wanted to pursue a career in architecture and sustainable design. Once she learned buildings are responsible for a considerable amount of global carbon emissions, she knew she wanted to focus on designing buildings and homes that have a low carbon footprint. Michelle first joined Green Hammer in January 2020 as the Energy Trust of Oregon Net Zero Emerging Leader Intern during which she developed energy modeling processes that could be carried out through the different stages of design.

In February 2021, after earning her masters degree from the University of Oregon, she rejoined our team as an architectural associate. Michelle says Green Hammer’s commitment to achieving sustainability, no matter how challenging, was a huge draw for her. “For many other architecture firms, sustainability is an afterthought, but for Green Hammer it’s what we do. We don’t compromise on sustainability goals. I wanted to be a part of that."

On a daily basis, Michelle interacts with both the design and construction teams, and values being able to learn new things from a variety of different people. She says her favorite part of the job is working with others who bring a positive attitude and passion for the company's mission to their work. She enjoys drawing, camping and hiking in her free time, taking advantage of the Pacific Northwest’s natural beauty.
