Michael Spatzek

Integration Champion- Director
  • Michael Spatzek

Michael brings a vibrant personality, engaging demeanor, and passion for education to our design build team. “When we design build intentional spaces, there is no need to check fun at the door,” he says.

As our Integration Champion, he is responsible for managing new client intake, developing project proposals and contracts, assembling project teams, and managing his clients' projects through the entirety of Green Hammer's unified design build process. He nurtures projects from their inception through habitation, blending design knowledge and experience that comes with spending 25 years in residential construction.

Originally from suburban Chicago, Michael considers Green Hammer his adopted family. In 15+ years, he has overseen six LEED-H Platinum certified custom homes. In 2011, Michael led our expansion into Southern Oregon. Relocating for two years, he helped ensure our reputation for delivering high-performance buildings with quality craftsmanship carried through to our Southern Oregon projects.

Prior to Portland, Michael spent a decade in the mountains of Sun Valley/Ketchum in south central Idaho, where he developed his craft and nurtured his passion for nature. He was drawn to Portland to find a team that “does things a little differently" and appreciates having found a company that matches his environmental ethos and drive for innovation.

Michael volunteers and serves with several nonprofit boards and organizations, notably as a large art installation curator at Oregon Country Fair and as a board member of the Oregon Botanical Project. If you have an hour, ask him sometime about plants and gardening!

Michael also serves as the (unpaid and unofficial) archivist of Green Hammer, ever threatening to curate a slide show of the halcyon days of Green Hammer gone by. As he regularly mentions, ”They did not hire me for my sense of humor. That was just the icing on the cake.”
