Willamette Valley Residence

Set among the vineyards of the Willamette Valley, this 1992 home received a thoughtful renovation that honors its original open-floor-plan design while improving flexibility and flow. After raising three children here, the owners sought to modernize the home’s finishes, enhance the kitchen’s functionality, and create brighter, more adaptable spaces designed for easy entertaining.

After removing a wall between the kitchen and the opposite office, more natural light penetrates deeper into the home. In the kitchen, Portland-based Big Branch Woodworking crafted custom built-in cabinets that serve as a divider between rooms and provide sleek storage for a coffee bar and small appliances. We reimagined the dining area to accommodate both intimate gatherings and larger events, with adaptable seating and tables, as well as a wine bar.

A new micro cement fireplace by Zahara Finishes, made of cement, water-based resins, and lime-based pigments, anchors the living room. The walls are plastered in a similar organic, zero-VOC lime wash, bringing texture, warmth, and breathability to the space.

In the living room, a new sliding glass door opens to an outdoor terrace and the rolling vineyards beyond. Guests can wander through the native landscaping and garden beds, challenge one another to a game of ping-pong, or just sit and take in the views.

The refreshed mud room with laundry features new storage, a drying rack and new easy-to-clean finishes. New storage provides ample space for shoes and laundry essentials, along with a new countertop perfect for folding laundry. To improve air quality, the room is equipped with an Energy Recovery Ventilator (ERV). This system continuously brings in fresh air from outside while exhausting stale air. As a result, the room feels comfortable and organized, making laundry day more enjoyable.
