Richmond Residence

The Richmond Residence is a zero-energy and zero-water custom home in Portland, Oregon.  The 1,757 SF home is ‘right-sized’ for a young couple interested in minimizing their environmental footprint, and in response to the site and surrounding structures of this urban setting. The community-oriented front porch and entry are framed with clear stained cedar – a warm, inviting contrast to the massing and darker siding on the rest of the structure. The form of the gable roof is a simple, modern interpretation of the neighborhood context, and allows ample south-facing exposure for a productive solar array. The ‘tuck under’ approach to the garage minimizes its impact on the street-facing façade, allowing for a stronger connection between the main living areas and public sidewalk. Thoughtful placement of triple-pane windows take in generous natural light while meeting energy efficiency goals, and foster a strong indoor-outdoor connection while preserving privacy.  Landscape Design by Landline Design.
