Unlike sustainability, which focuses on reducing negative impacts, regenerative buildings aim to create a net positive impact. Designing and building today means thinking beyond the status quo. At Green Hammer, we pursue high-performance building standards that drastically reduce water and energy use, create healthier, more comfortable spaces, reduce environmental impacts, and are restorative.
We consider everything from carbon emissions and climate resilience to air quality and water conservation to beauty and comfort. We think about how our projects can bring people together, strengthen connections, and support equity.
Over time, our work has evolved from “doing less harm” to creating buildings that actively improve the health of the ecosystems and communities around them. These restorative and regenerative buildings often:
- Produce their own energy
- Conserve natural resources
- Clean water and air resources
- Use safe and healthy materials
- Connect to community and nature
- Combat climate change
Nature as Inspiration
Nature is our ultimate classroom and an infinite source of inspiration. Regenerative buildings mimic healthy living systems, improving air and water quality, conserving and producing clean energy. A healthy building supports the well-being of individuals and our planet. Every project is an opportunity to improve our well-being and relationship with nature.
Reducing Carbon Emissions
Fighting the climate crisis requires bold action. Reducing carbon emissions is a central goal of our work. The built environment accounts for about 40% of total greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in the U.S. and about 39% worldwide. The vast majority of these emissions come from the energy used to operate buildings, while the rest are the result of building construction, materials and deconstruction. High-performance buildings are designed to use significantly less energy than standard code-compliant buildings. By reducing energy consumption, these buildings also lower carbon emissions associated with energy production and transport, often reducing operational emissions by 60%–70%.
Designed for People
Design shapes how we live every day. At Green Hammer, we create inspiring spaces that are beautiful, comfortable, and reflect the values and style of our clients. Our design philosophy starts with listening. We take the time to get to know how you live in your space today — and how you hope to live in it in the future. Whether you’re navigating a life transition, such as starting a family or sending children to college, or simply want to feel more inspired and comfortable in your home, we are deeply invested in helping you achieve your goals.
Many clients seek us out because of our environmental ethos and long track record of creating healthy, high-performance homes and communities. They’re often seeking a home that reflects their design aesthetic while also facilitating a deeper connection to personal wellness and nature. They want a home that is comfortable and healthy for them and their family.
Built for Life
Craftsmanship is at the core of all we do. Our builders bring technical expertise, mastery over their craft, careful attention to detail, and a deep understanding of building science to create homes that are beautiful, high-performing, and built to bring joy, wellness and comfort for generations.
