Green Hammer is established as a sole proprietor, emphasizing material reuse and the incorporation of natural and FSC-certified wood in Portland homes.

2006

Build Local Alliance

We co-found the Build Local Alliance with Peter Hayes of Hyla Woods to strengthen connections between regional, responsibly managed forests and local builders and architects

2008

Leapfrog Houses

We complete two of Portland’s first LEED Platinum-certified homes, which also win the first residential Designing & Building with FSC Award.

2011

First FSC-Certified Project in the U.S.

Our Panelized Passive House home addition becomes the first-ever U.S. home to achieve FSC certification.

2011

Cash Passive House

We complete this custom home, which becomes Portland’s first certified Passive House.

2013

Fineline Custom Home

This custom home in Southern Oregon achieves LEED Platinum certification and is an honorable mention in the Designing & Building with FSC Awards.

2013

CAPACES Leadership Institute

We coordinate more than 1,500 volunteers to complete this training center and office space for CAPACES, supporting farmworkers and immigrants’ rights leaders in Oregon. It becomes the second certified Passive House commercial building in North America.

2014

LEED for Homes Builder of the Year

Earth Advantage recognizes Green Hammer as the LEED for Homes Builder of the Year.

2015

Orchards at Orenco Station

We serve as the Passive House consultant for the largest multifamily Passive House project in North America at the time. The project is named Portland Business Journal’s Sustainable Project of the Year.

2015

Ankeny Row Cohousing

Portland’s first Zero Energy cohousing community, Ankeny Row includes six homes and a community space supporting aging in place and community connection.

2016

Cowhorn Vineyard & Garden Tasting Room

This tasting room in Southern Oregon becomes the first commercial building in Oregon to achieve Living Building Challenge certification, and the 20th project worldwide to meet the standard. 

2017

Rocky Mountain Insitute’s Innovation Center

We serve as the Passive House air-tightness consultant for RMI’s headquarters in Basalt, Colorado, which becomes one of the largest Passive House-certified commercial buildings in North America.

FSC Leadership Award

Green Hammer and Cowhorn Vineyard & Garden receive an FSC Leadership Award for using responsibly sourced, FSC-certified wood in Cowhorn’s Living Building Challenge-certified tasting room.

B Corp Certification

Green Hammer achieves B Corp certification, becoming one of the first Oregon businesses to earn the distinction. 

2018

Tillamook Row

We design and build this modern community of 16 homes with a community building, which is Portland’s first Zero Energy-certified multifamily project for renters.

‘Best for the World’ Honoree (Overall)

Green Hammer is recognized as a “Best for the World” honoree, an award given to certified B Corps that demonstrate exceptional positive impact across all measured categories.

2019

The Oaks at RoseVilla

This community of 12 energy-efficient homes, designed to meet the Passive House standard, is the first Zero Energy-certified senior housing community in Portland.

Portland Rotary Environmental Achievement Award

The Portland Rotary Club recognized Green Hammer with its annual Environmental Achievement Award.

AIA 2030 Award + Fast Company Design Award

Tillamook Row is named a Fast Company Innovation by Design Award honoree, and architect Erica Dunn wins AIA’s prestigious 2030 award for the project.

2020

New Day School

We complete this whole-building renovation and add rooftop solar, helping New Day become Oregon’s first Net Zero Energy-certified preschool.

Hall of Fame Builder

Green Hammer is inducted into Earth Advantage’s Green Builder of the Year Hall of Fame.

‘Best for the World’ Honoree (Environment)

We are recognized as one of the highest-scoring B Corps for our commitment to environmental stewardship.

We serve as the Zero Energy consultant for the Wynne Watts Commons, an affordable housing community by Albertina Kerr. It wins the Portland Business Journal’s Landmark Award and the Urban Land Institute’s Terwilliger Center Award for Innovation in Attainable Housing.

RoseVilla Zero Energy Carport

We complete the ROSE Port Pilot Project — a resiliency hub with a regenerative design, equipped with rooftop solar and battery storage, rainwater collection, and earthquake-ready design.
