Alex Batzer Named a 2018 Phenom by Daily Journal of Commerce11.20.18
Congratulations to Green Hammer Project Manager, Alexandra Batzer, who was nominated for, and selected as, one of the 2018 Phenoms & Icons honorees. Each year, the Daily Journal of Commerce accepts nominations for two separate award categories—one for the local building industry’s rising stars who are younger than age 40 (Phenoms), and another for local building industry icons who are older than age 60 and have left a lasting legacy (Icons). Alex is one of 22 honorees chosen from more than 50 nominations.
Alex plays a critical role in advancing Green Hammer's mission of designing and building high-performance Net Zero Energy homes and pocket neighborhoods. In her focus on the intersection of construction and sustainable excellence, she is helping to advance the built environment in Portland and the entire state of Oregon. "Within the company, she is an unwavering voice for achieving sustainability in conjunction with profitability," says Director of Design, Erica Dunn.
As Project Engineer for the Tasting Room at Cowhorn Vineyard and Garden, one of only 27 buildings in the world to achieve Living Building Certification, Alex was responsible for the daunting task of ensuring all materials used on the project met the stringent requirements of the Living Building Challenge’s Materials Petal. This herculean effort required rigorous product research and persistent communication with product manufacturers and trade partners.
"I grew up in the construction industry and within the last six years, I really fell in love with the understanding that it can truly combat our changing climate. This drives my ambition to learn and grow within the industry, which is what I love most about my job—because it allows me to do just that," Alex says. "I want to know that what I dedicate most of my day to is positively helpful, whether that be international volunteerism or building durable and energy efficient buildings. I am very lucky to have a job that inspires me in this way consistently."
Alexandra will be recognized at a celebration at the Sentinel Hotel in downtown Portland from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Dec. 13, 2018.
